The team from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is now looking through news reports from North Carolina, where noise reports are fairly frequent. The team hopes to be able to verify noise using seismic sound data obtained from ESTA. Unfortunately, they did not find any events that coincided with the earthquake. “We believe this is a phenomenon related to the atmosphere. We do not think it comes from seismic activity,” said researcher Eli Bird. Many explanations and conjectures are given, but for now, until more data is collected, the mysterious noise remains a big question mark for scientists.
